How does thinking through speaking while walking, publicly, change the quality and nature of my thoughts?
There is, in our culture, a stigma around people who talk to themselves. Seen at its extreme as an indicator of mental illness, talking to oneself can also be a way of working through ideas out loud. I do a lot of thinking while walking. How does the nature of my thoughts change when I am voicing them out loud, in a performance that is hidden by the number of technological devices that allow us to talk to other humans out loud while seemingly speaking to ourselves? To an observer it may look like I am having a phone conversation (an acceptable and safe way of talking in public, on a cellphone). To anyone following and listening to what I am saying, it will become clear that I am not talking to anyone else but myself. What sorts of thoughts can come from this embodied experience? I record the things I say aloud for future reflection and consideration.
