Curation / exhibition / gathering artists together
Gathering, community, gifts, collecting, sharing, collaborative
July 2022
If I bring together artists who I have met whose work intrigues me and offer them to reflect on a theme of gathering, what effect will this gathering have?
In a universe spinning outwards, what causes us to draw inwards, to collect, to come together?
Why do we gather? What do we gather?
How do we make choices around gathering?
What stories do these gatherings tell us?
This was a collection of undergrad and grad students, faculty, staff, alumni, and others, coming together in a gathering of gatherings – a show spanning across disciplines, perspectives, and practices, to explore what can happen when we come together. During a time where gathering in person has taken on more significance, at a time when we must collect what we can, this show embraces the happenstance of meeting and is made rich by a diversity of perspectives coming together, each reflecting on the theme of gathering.
Featuring work by Andrew Harris, Matthew Kratz, Maryon Bouchard, Lachlan Sheldrick, Sonia Chow, Sarah Brooks, Natalie Goulet, Megan Hosmer, Wiebke Schroeder, Jazz Keillor, carrie phillips kieser, Jordyn Bochon, Alice Banks, Heidi Friesen, Saba Blyden-Taylor, Rena Thomas, David Clark, Leah Decter, and Colleen MacIsaac.
I am interested in gathering people together, trusting them, and providing radical points of access and flexibility. I am interested in how work activates when placed in conversation with other work. I am interested in gathering people and artworks together, and in providing opportunities.
